Exchange Migration

Since Microsoft exchange is much more than just a vanila mail server, a true replacement of it will require an equally feature-rich product. We recommend Zimbra for this. Zimbra is an open source email messaging and collaboration application. The powerful Ajax web client integrates email, contacts, shared calendar and online document authoring into a rich browser-based interface.

Full support is provided for standards-based APIs (IMAP / POP / iCal / CalDAV) as well as MAPI and iSync, which enable seamless compatibility with other clients like Microsoft Outlook, Apple desktop suite, and Mozilla Thunderbird.

The Zimbra Collaboration Suite Migration Wizard for Exchange is used to migrate Microsoft Exchange server email accounts to the Zimbra Collaboration Suite server and to import the email, calendar, and contact information for the selected Exchange users. The import process replicates the user’s Outlook folder hierarchy, importing email messages, calendars and contacts from the Exchange server. Any keywords are converted to tags in Zimbra Collaboration Suite.
Accounts from Microsoft Exchange 2000, 2003 and 5.5 can be migrated.

During the migration, the wizard performs the following tasks:
• Creates the user account on the Zimbra server
• Imports mail messages, attachments, calendars, and contacts
• Creates a log file for troubleshooting any import errors or warnings

 Server-to-server migration

  • IMAP sync: this moves mail from server to server, retaining its date and attachments.
  • Exchange migration: this moves mail, calendars, contacts and tasks, retaining dates and attachments.  It requires that you own the server and have root/sys admin privileges on it (ie: we cannot use this method to migrate you from hosted exchange providers).
Client-to-server migration
  1. Outlook .PST import tool: this moves data automatically from Outlook and Exchange into a Zimbra mailbox.
  2. Mac sync connector: once your calendars, contacts and mail are in Apple's native applications (Mail, iCal, AddressBook), this tool's purpose is to sync your data to your Zimbra account.
  3. .CSV upload: for contacts you may want to upload to a Zimbra account
  4. .ICS upload: for calendars you may want to upload to your Zimbra account
