Client Challenges

The client was using an older version of the Qmail mail server since 2008. Qmail being an open-source community-based mail server, had no dedicated support whenever issues cropped up. Moreover, the platform did not have any modern-day features like briefcase, calendar sharing, shared mailbox, quotas for individual mail IDs, mail archival or Highly Availability clusters.

In a nutshell, the client had the following principal expectations:

  • Highly available mail server (HA)
  • Enterprise-level support for the mail server
  • Advanced features in the mail server (calendar sharing, shared mailbox, mail size quota, mail archival)
  • Backup efficiency.

Our Solution

Taashee’s dedicated Zimbra team made a detailed survey of the client’s existing infrastructure and came up with a project plan to mitigate their pain points. Our alternate solution was to implement Zimbra Network Edition, which is an enterprise-grade mail server that closely catered to the client’s core requirements.

Our dedicated Zimbra team started off with deploying and configuring the Zimbra mail server, Zimbra proxy server, MTA and integrating LDAP servers. We configured the DKIM settings and then migrated all the user accounts and mailboxes from Qmail to Zimbra mail. The mail server was made Highly Available as per the client’s needs and backup and failover settings were configured. We also provided a completely customized web-UI application for changing the mail passwords on Zimbra mail.

Taashee was able to implement this project in less than a month with 100% client satisfaction on all the critical project deliverables.

Results & Benefits

The benefits available to the client majorly came from the upgradation to an enterprise version mail server as opposed to their previous mail server, which was open-source.

The main differentiating factor was the availability of 24×7 support from Zimbra which was completely absent in Qmail, which was community supported. Installing LetsEncrypt SSL certificate provided a security boost to the integrated mail data on the servers. Moreover, Zimbra has configurable Web-UIs and collaboration tools, which helps to integrate it with Gmail, Outlook, etc.

On top of all these, Zimbra’s modern feature set (briefcase, calendar sharing, shared mailbox, quotas for individual mail IDs, and mail archival) acted as an added advantage when compared to Qmail.
