Our client, a leading end-to-end digital solutions provider, needed to migrate their on-premise VMs to Microsoft Azure Cloud and set up AlwaysOn Replication at the database level between their on-premise physical infrastructure to Azure Cloud. Taashee, a digital solutions provider, took on the assignment in two phases. Phase 1 involved migrating the VMs to Azure cloud using the Azure Migrate migration tool, while Phase 2 offered maintenance and support services for the Azure cloud and allied infrastructure. The migration resulted in a 73% reduction in data loss, 57% higher availability, and 54% faster response times. Ongoing cloud NOC support also resulted in reduced troubleshooting times, 45% less server downtimes and 87% reduction in maintenance costs.

The client was planning to migrate their on-premise VMs to Microsoft Azure Cloud and setup AlwaysOn Replication at the database level between their on-premise physical infrastructure to Azure Cloud. Post this migration activity, they also required 24×7 maintenance and support services for their Azure cloud and allied infrastructure.
Taashee took up this assignment in two separate phases. Phase 1 dealt with the migration of the VMs to Azure cloud and all allied activities, while Phase 2 offered maintenance and support services post the implementation activities.
In Phase 1, Taashee adopted a holistic cloud migration strategy, curated to address the client’s specific needs using the Azure Migrate migration tool. The figure below depicts the strategy our Azure engineers used for this activity.
Our Azure experts started out by setting up the Azure Migrate server migration appliance using an OVA template and simultaneously preparing VMware to access the client’s VMs. Using the Azure Migrate project key that had been generated, the OVA template was imported to create a new VM. The appliance was configured accordingly to start the continuous discovery of the client’s VMs.
On the on-premise infra front, the primary database was set to full recovery mode in preparation for the migration activity. A full database and T-log backup was performed using Microsoft storage explorer tool, and copied to the BLOB storage on Azure. The Always-On Availability group (AG) and the Listener was also configured.
In order to set up the Azure SQL server, the secondary database was set to full recovery mode and the database full backup and T-log backup was restored. The Azure virtual network and VPN was provisioned, while Azure Internal Load Balancer was configured as a listener for the AlwaysOn feature. A failover cluster with two nodes, an on-premise SQL Server and an Azure SQL Server VM, were setup with the AlwaysOn feature enabled. A virtual computer object (VCO) was also created to ‘listen’ to the AlwaysOn feature. Finally, all the databases were added to AlwaysOn Availability group.
For Phase 2 of this project, Taashee implemented our award-winning cloud NOC management services, where the client’s entire application stack – right from their Firewall, Web Servers, Middleware, API gateways and Databases to Messaging, Rules Management, Identity and Access, Data Analytics, Log Analysis and Monitoring – is presently being maintained and supported 24x7x365 by Taashee’s extensive team that has decades of cumulative experience in all these diverse and complex technological niches.
The benefits for the client were multifold.
The migration from on-premise physical storage to Azure cloud turned out to be a gamechanger in terms of reduction in data loss which was to the tune of 73%. Azure’s Always On feature translated to 57% higher availability and 54% faster response times across the entire cloud infrastructure.
Moreover, our ongoing cloud NOC support ensures that troubleshooting times across the cloud and all allied infrastructure has reduced by more than 60%, server downtimes have reduced by as much as 45% and maintenance costs have plummeted by almost 87% since the client does not have to maintain separate support staff for different technologies to keep their services up and running.
